Traditional Diploma Requirements

Language Arts

All students must complete (4.0) credits of the following Language Arts:

  • (1.0) credit       Language Arts 9

  • (1.0) credit       Language Arts 10

  • (1.0) credit       Language Arts 11, Language Arts 11 Honors, Language Arts 12

  • (1.0) credit       Creative Writing, Language Arts 11 Honors, Language Arts 12, CE ENGL 1010, or CE ENGL 2010

Mathematics

All students must complete (3.0) credits of the following mathematics:

  • (1.0) credit       Secondary Math 1 (Algebra 1)

  • (1.0) credit       Secondary Math 2 (Geometry)

  • (1.0) credit       Secondary Math 3 or Mathematics of Personal Finance

Utah State policy, http://www.rules.utah.gov/publicat/code/r277/r277-700.htm#T6 ,for all students graduating in 2016 or beyond states that students must have three(3) credits of mathematics including Secondary I, II, and III. Parents may opt students out of Secondary III for an approved course (Mathematics of Personal Finance). However, there is no opt-out clause for Secondary I and II.

Universities require (3.0) credits of Math through Sec Math 3 as a minimum.

Science

All students must complete (3.0) credits of Science with (1.0) Life Science, (1.0) Physical Science, and (1.0) Elective science credit.

* Universities require (3.0) credits of Core Science.

Social Science

All students must complete (3.00) credits of the following Social Science:

  • (.50) credit       Geography For Life I (9th Grade)

  • (.50) credit       World Civilizations I or II (10th Grade)

  • (1.0) credit       U. S. History II (11th Grade)

  • (.50) credit       U. S. Government & Citizenship (12th Grade)

  • (.50) credit       Elective History Credit (Any Grade)

 Beginning with the Freshmen class of 2026-27, 3.50 credits of Social Science will be required for graduation.

Foreign Language

Foreign Language is NOT a high school requirement.

* Universities recommend (2.0) credits of foreign language for college prep.

Arts

 All students must complete (1.50) credits of Art in grades 9-12.

Healthy Lifestyles

All students must take (2.0) credits of Physical Education in the following:

  • (.50) credit       Physical Skills & Technique (9th Grade) (Participation in team athletics can meet this requirement)

  • (.50) credit       Fitness For Life (10th Grade)

  • (.50) credit       Health II (10th Grade)

  • (.50) credit      Elective PE (Participation in Athletics, dance, or cheer for a season can meet this requirement)

Vocational Education

All students must complete (1.0) credit of vocational classes in grades 9-12.

All students must complete (.50) Business Office Specialist course in the 9th grade.
